$10,000 Offered for Minnesota Marathon Double

Only one man and one woman have done it, but Ethiopia’s Berhanu Girma and Kenya’s Everlyne Lagat have the opportunity to win $10,000 each if they can match their victories at June’s Grandma’s Marathon with wins at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

Kenyan Andrew Musuva won both of the Minnesota Marathon's titles in 1999, and Ethiopia's Buzunesh Deba did it in 2011.

The bonus money is in addition to the $15,000 the winner of the men's and woman's race's receive out of the total $113,000 prize money purse.  Another potential bonus is the $25,000 given to the man or woman who can break the course record for their gender.  The men's record of 2:10:05 was set in 1985 by Iowa's Phil Coppess, while two women share the record having run the same time in different years--2:26:51 by Russians Zinaida Semenove in 2001 and Irina Permitina in 2004.

This year's race is on October 7.
