The winter-like temperatures didn't deter Carleton's Colby Seyferth at Saturday's Norse Relays hosted by Luther (Iowa) College. The Knights' sophomore won the 400-meter hurdles, led two relay teams to victory, and finished second in the javelin. His 400-hurdle time is tops in the MIAC this spring. For his performance, Seyferth was named the MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Seyferth's top performance was his win in the 400-hurdles. He surged ahead in the home stretch to win by two-tenths of a second with a time of 56.38, the top MIAC time this year by more than a half-second. Seyferth also helped the 4x400-meter relay team (3:24.32) finish first as he anchored another come-from-behind win, and he helped the Sprint Medley Team (3:33.18) also earn a victory. His toss of 41.74 meters was good for a runner-up finish in the javelin. Carleton finished second out of eight teams.

Johnson got off to a good start in the javelin Saturday at Luther, taking the lead with just two rounds remaining. However,  a Luther student-athlete pulled ahead on the second-to-last round, leaving Johnson with just one more chance. She came through in a big way, throwing 36.78 meters to secure the win. Hamline sends track team members to two meets
They had to go to two separate sites … and one of them was indoors … but the Hamline track team got back at it last weekend. Snowed out of a trip to the St. Ben’s/St. John’s Invite, the Pipers split their squads, sending throwers and distance runners to the Norse Relays in Decorah, Iowa and the jumpers and sprinters to an unscored indoor meet at St. Thomas. Becky Culp won the Discus and Shot Put, Shawny Kramer claimed the Hammer and Hannah Toedter won the 3000 Meter Steeplechase in Iowa. The men had a pair of winners as well with Ben Dvorak topping the field in the Discus and Brendan Ruter matching Toedter’s win in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.
