In its first scored meet of the spring, the Minnesota women's track and field team finished third at the Crimson Tide Invite with 102.5 points. Penn State won the team title with 115 points.
Alena Brooks chopped more than two seconds off of her outdoor PR to finish second in 2:05.82 in the 800 and now ranks behind only Heather Dorniden in school history in the event. Te'Shon Adderley came in fifth in 2:08.45, ninth in school history.
Todea-Kay Willis won the long jump after clearing 20 feet for the second time this outdoor season. Her mark of 20 feet, 2 1/2 inches (6.16m) topped runner-up Eric Bougard of Mississippi State by just 1/4 inch. Willis later finished third in the 200 meters with a personal record time of 24.37 seconds, which ranks 10th in school history. She also ran on the second-place 4x100m relay team with Akuoma Omeoga, Megan Geyen and Kylie Peterson.
Paige Orcutt won the 3,000m steeplechase in 10:43.82. Ashlie Decker finished second and Kate Bucknam fourth. Jeri Johnson-Chambers started off the meet with a runner-up finish in the hammer throw. Her personal-record toss of 184 feet, 6 inches (56.25m) ranks seventh in school history. Devin Stanford competed in the hammer and the discus, finishing third in discus with a season-best throw of 161-11.
Emily Betz, who already ranked 10th all-time in javelin at Minnesota, posted a PR throw of 146-1 (44.53m) to finish fourth. Maggie Bollig set a new PR in the 1,500 meters, finishing third in 4:27.76.
"Probably the highlight today was Alena running 2:05 in the 800," director of track and field/cross country Matt Bingle said. "I was pleased with the team's effort today, but we still have a lot of work to do. We had a chance to win. We still need to make some mental adjustments and physically keep getting better."
