Yes/No: Will Antonio Vega break 1:04 at Des Moines?

Antonio Vega was sidelined in 2011 and part of 2012 with hip injuries.  He has returned fit and fast in the fall of 2012 and recently finished ninth at the TC 10 Mile.  Vega ran 47:53 in that race that served as the USA 10 Mile Championship.  His personal record at the 10 mile distance is 47:43 while his half marathon best is 1:01:54.

Vega will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to challenge that half-marathon best and test his fitness.  He has a shot at placing another Minnesotan in the IMT Des Moines Half-Marathon record book.  Jenna Boren has the female course record in 1:16:03.  The current men's record is 1:03:45, run by Ezkyas Tsegaya in 2011.

Yes/No: Will Antonio Vega run faster than 1:04:00 at the Des Moines Half-Marathon on Sunday?

Antonio Vega ran 4:47 pace in the TC 10 Miler in early October.  To break 1:04 at the Des Moines Half-Marathon, Vega would have have to run 4:53 pace.  In Vega's personal record 1:01:54, he averaged 4:43 pace.

Halfmarathons.net describes the Des Moines course as "largely fast and flat."

My Answer:  No

Last week's question was will the Collegeville Track Club win the Open Men category at the Pike Island Open Cross Country race on Sunday?  The answer was no.  Collegeville was ahead through four runners but did not finish a fifth man and finished as an incomplete team.  Northwoods won the Open Race with a squad that was all at least 48 years old.  Mike Mason remains in first with twenty-five points.  Ryan Aylesworth, Gloria Jansen, Mike Henderson and Heather Jelen are all second with twenty-four points.
