Gopher men's hammer thrower Quentin Mege, a recent Academic All-Big selection was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive year on Thursday. A native of Chelles, France, Mege's exploits in the classroom rival his athletic achievements as the senior has a 3.92 grade point average as an undergraduate with a mechanical engineering degree who has enrolled in graduate school in his final season with the Maroon and Gold. Mege also garnered Academic All-District honors in 2012 and added Capital One Academic All-American and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar designations following the season.
The Gophers' hammer thrower opened the 2013 outdoor season by re-setting his own school record with a throw of 221'5" at the Baldy Castillo Invitational - the mark stands as the best throw in the Big Ten this season and the seventh best performance in the nation.
The senior was hampered for most of the season by a broken hand, but returned to finish second at the Big Ten Championships behind teammate Micah Hegerle - the duo have now combined for four-straight conference titles with Mege earning Big Ten titles in 2011 and 2012. Mege, a Second Team All-Big Ten selection, qualified for the NCAA West Regionals and finished second with a toss of 217'7" earning a trip to the NCAA Championships next week in Eugene, OR.
