Procrastinators rejoice, registration for the
June 22 running of the 37th Grandma's Marathon will remain open for an extra week. This
extension now gives runners through Friday, June 7 to join the field.
“With this year’s race
falling a week later than typical, we thought it was appropriate to give
marathoners some extra time to make their commitment to enter,” said Scott Keenan,
executive director of Grandma’s Marathon. “This additional week hopefully will
accommodate those currently on the fence.”
Online registration for
the annual Two Harbors-to-Duluth race can be accessed by visiting www.GrandmasMarathon.com. The
country’s 14th largest marathon currently has more than 7,100 signed
up.
Grandma's Marathon
weekend also features the 23rd annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the 20th
annual William A. Irvin 5K. The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is Saturday, June
22 at 6:45 a.m. and the William A. Irvin 5K is Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m.
Registration for those two events is closed.
For the second
consecutive year, Grandma’s Marathon weekend will also include the USA Men’s and
Women’s Half Marathon Championships. The participants in this event are US elite runners who will be racing for national titles as well as a share of the
$82,000 purse. In all, more than 17,000
runners from around the world will participate in Grandma's Marathon weekend,
which is presented by Wells Fargo and Toyota.
