For the fifth consecutive year,
runners in the Twin Cities and across the country will use National Running Day,
Wednesday, June 5, to get inspired and motivated, and to celebrate the reasons
and people that make running a special part of their lives.
Twin Cities
In Motion, the organizers of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and a host of
running events throughout the year, will lead National Running Day activities in
the area, hosting a water stop for runners on Wednesday evening at the Lake
Calhoun Center parking lot on the northwest side of Lake Calhoun in
Minneapolis. A free group run will depart at 6:00 p.m.
TCM will also
partner with Running Room stores in Uptown Minneapolis, St. Paul and Eden
Prairie for group runs leaving from the stores at 6:00 p.m. Running Room and
TCM will provide light refreshments at all of the group runs and offer prize
giveaways.

“This year,
National Running Day takes on a special significance after the tragedy in
Boston,” Twin Cities In Motion Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman said.
“In the aftermath of Boston, we’ve seen runners recommit themselves to their
sport and use the activity they love to support those affected by the event.
National Running Day, no matter how it’s celebrated, is a great way to say that
runners will not be deterred from the activity they love.”
National
Running Day is a cooperative effort among running industry leaders nation-wide.
