John Simons made the final of the men's mile running 4:00.47 to finish six in the first heat. Simons qualified on time as the top four in each heat advanced with the two fastest remaining grabbing the last two spots. Results including splits for Simons' heat are HERE.
Arizona's Lawi Lalang led the entire way, winning the heat in 3:58.52. Simons was in fourth until the final lap when he was outkicked by Stanford's Tyler Stutzman and Wisconsin's Christopher Fallon, but Simons' time got him into the final as the second heat was won in 4:01.67 with fifth, the first non-automatic qualifying spot, was 4:02.18. Harun Abda finished third in the first heat of the 800 prelims in 1:48.65 to automatically qualify for the final. Heat one splits are HERE.
