University of Minnesota junior Gabriele Anderson and senior Liz Podominick were named Big Ten Female Athletes of the Week based on their performances at last weekend's Parents Open. Anderson of Perham was selected as track athlete of the week for her 2:08.97 winning performance in the 800 meters. Podominick, from Lakeville and winner of the shot put with a throw of 51' 2 3/4", was co-field athlete of the week with Purdue pole vaulter Brianna Neumann.
On the men's side junior All American Ibrahim Kabia is the Men's Big Ten Athlete of the Week. Kabia won the 60 meter dash at last Friday's Snowshoe Open in a season's best of 6.73.
The women host the Big Ten Indoor Championships Saturday and Sunday at the University of Minnesota Field House. Three Big Ten teams are ranked in the top ten of the US Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association poll. Michigan is ranked fifth, Minnesota seventh, and Penn State eighth.
