Smock (pictured), the Olympic Trials champion and the United States' lone entrant in the event, will be in action starting at 4:25 a.m. Minnesota time.
The North Dakota State University alumnus will be the seventeenth and final jumper in Group A of the qualifying round. Another eighteen jumpers will compete simultaneously in Group B.
The top twelve jumpers will advance to Sunday's final; jumpers marking 47-3 or farther automatically advance to finals.

Making the final will be a tall order for the first-time Olympian. Smock ranks #33 in the field based on her 2012 season best and #32 based on her personal best. Four years ago in Beijing, it took 46-6 1/4 -- Smock's PR exactly -- to advance to finals.
At the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea last summer, Smock jumped 44-2 3/4 to finish 17th in her qualifying flight and 31st overall. Four years ago, Smock's friend and training partner Shani Marks finished 13th in her group and 28th overall with a mark of 44-1 1/4.
Should Smock advance, she'd make history as the first American to make a Olympic women's triple jump final.
