Why is the Big Ten Meet in Geneva, Ohio? Minnesota Men Sweep Big Ten Honors

In more Big Ten news, Gopher seniors Micah Hegerle and Harun Abda  swept this week’s Big Ten Conference awards with for their performances at Friday’s Snowshoe Open. Hegerle was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week after winning the weight throw at 21.84 meters – the second best throw in the nation this year and the best in the Big Ten. The senior also nearly matched his school record in the event. Today’s honor marks Hegerle’s fourth career indoor track and field weekly honor.

Abda was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week after picking up an individual title in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.68. The senior’s time ranks second in the Big Ten, sixth in the NCAA, and set a new University of Minnesota Fieldhouse record. Today’s honor marks Abda’s second career indoor track and field weekly honor.
