The Mankato Marathon announced that Kathrine Switzer will be the keynote speaker for the Speaker Series on Saturday, October 19, 2013. The title of her speech is "Men, Women and the Marathon; Running Away Together." Her talk, as she says, is "not about running but changing people's lives."
Switzer has run 39 marathons including her win at the New York City Marathon in 1974, she is also an advocate for sports equality for women. Switzer created the Avon International Running Circuit of women's only races in 27 countries beginning in 1978. The global impact of this series was influential on the inclusion of the first women's marathon in the 1984 Olympics. Switzer is also an Emmy award-winning TV commentator, and an author of three books including her memoir, Marathon Woman.

Bring Back the Mile
The Bring Back the Mile Tour 2013 opens on Saturday, February 2 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston and at the Camel City Indoor Mile, part of the Hilton Garden Innvitational collegiate track meet in Winston-Salem, NC. The 13-race circuit includes two races in Minnesota--The Medtronic TC One Mile on May 9 and the Grandma's Minnesota Mile on September 8.
“From Boston to Santa Barbara and stops in-between, the Bring Back the Mile Tour 2013 will provide an excellent platform to further promote the distance that Americans ‘get’ and love,” said BBTM Founder Ryan Lamppa. “Each event on the tour will engage and entertain runners of all ages and abilities, the media, fans and the general public, and we welcome and thank all the inaugural tour events."
