Former Winona High School standout Elliott Heath finished fourth, former Gopher Hassan Mead finished 13th, and Team USA Minnesota's Jon Peterson was 22nd at the USATF Championships in St. Louis on Saturday. Heath ran 35:56.1, Mead 36:37.1, and Peterson 36:56.3. By finishing in the top six, Heath earned a spot on the US team for the IAAF World Championships in March in Poland. Team USA Minnesota's Jamie Cheever finished tenth in the women's race in 27:20.7. Teammates Meghan Peyton(13th, 27:26.5) ) and Ladia Albertson-Junkans(20th, 28:00)finished in the top 20.
