Seven Team USA Minnesota distance runners will compete at Sunday's Payton Jordan Invitational with hopes of achieving or improving upon their qualifying times for the U.S. Olympic Track Field Trials.
The Payton Jordan meet is held at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.
Chris Rombough will run in the men's 5000-meters and has a best in the distance of 13:42.05 - the U.S. 'A' qualifying time is 13:33. Jamie Cheever will compete in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase and has posted 10:02.18 in the event. Cheever currently has a 'B' qualifier and will seek to obtain an 'A' of 9:55 or better.
Five of the Team USA Minnesota runners will compete in the 10,000-meters including Andrew Carlson, Jon Grey, Matt Llano, Katie McGregor, and Meghan Peyton. Carlson has a best of 28:25.8 in the distance but did not compete on the track in 2011, Grey posted 28:40.33 while still a collegian, and Llano has run 28:43.3 (Llano posted this time within last year's qualifying window and so has a 'B' qualifier for the Trials). The 'A' qualifying time for men is 28:15 and 'B' is 29:00.
In the women's 10,000, McGregor has a best of 31:21.2 and Peyton has run 32:59.11. The 'A' qualifying time for women is 32:45 and 'B' is 34:00. Peyton already has the 'B' qualifier, having posted her 32:59.11 within the window last year for the 2012 Trials. McGregor did not compete on the track in 2011.
The distance events at the Payton Jordan Invitational will be held Sunday evening.
