The Carleton College women's cross country team, 11th-place finishers at the NCAA Division III Championships last November, will open this season as the #13-ranked team in D3.
Carleton is the topped-ranked Minnesota Division III program in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll released yesterday.
Also making the preseason D3 top-35 for women are #22 St. Thomas and #32 St. Olaf.
The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, the defending NCAA Division III women's champions, top the preseason national rankings. The Blugolds are powered, in part, by Burnsville High School graduate Alyssa Sybilrud and Robbinsdale Cooper alum Jenna Smith.
St. Olaf College leads Minnesota's small college men's teams in the preseason rankings. The Oles, 21st at the NCAA Division III championships last year, are tabbed as the #16 team in the country.
Hamline University, the MIAC men's champs in 2009, are ranked #24 in the poll.
Washington University of St. Louis is the top-ranked men's squad.
