Kara Goucher to Continue Racing in 2009

Kara Goucher, who originally intended to make last month's Boston Marathon her final competition of 2009, has announced that she intends to run the marathon at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Berlin this August, according to the Portland Oregonian, HERE, and Track & Field News, HERE.

Goucher (pictured) and her husband Adam had planned to start a family later this year.

The Duluth native now plans to compete in several track races -- including the USA Championships in Eugene, Oregon -- before running at the World Championships. Goucher was a shock bronze medalist in the 2007 World Championships at 10,000 meters.

Goucher’s eagerness to continue racing showed itself immediately after her 3rd-place finish at Boston. Then, Goucher pleaded with coach Alberto Salazar for the opportunity to race at the London Marathon, which followed Boston by merely a week.

Also Changing Her Mind ... is Emily Brown.

Yesterday, Team USA Minnesota announced that the former Big Ten steeplechase champion had withdrawn from the Medtronic TC 1 Mile, the USA Road Mile Championship. Today, Brown is back in, having quickly recovered from the ailment that prompted her to pull out earlier.
