Torrence, Rowbury Win USA Road Mile;
Torrence Earns $10,000 Sub-4:00 Bonus

Shannon Rowbury and David Torrence won Thursday night's inaugural USA Road Mile Championship held in conjunction with the Medtronic TC 1 Mile.

Torrence (pictured), the USA Indoor champ at 3000 meters this winter, earned the race's $10,000 bonus for a men's sub-4:00 clocking with 3:59.3.

Early leader Jon Rankin was runner-up in 4:01.7; Bobby Curtis 4:02.0.

Rowbury (pictured leading Sara Hall), the Olympic Trials champion at 1500 meters, clocked 4:33.4, missing the women's sub-4:28 time bonus, but earning a $4000 winner's check.

Hall, the only runner to match Rowbury's early pace, was 2nd in 4:39.1; Sara Vaughn was 3rd in 4:41.3

Team USA Minneseota's Meghan Armstrong was 5th at 4:43. Teammate Carrie Tollefson was 8th in 4:47.

Team USA Minnesota's Emily Brown, who withdrew and re-entered the race during the week due to a slight foot injury, did not compete in the end.
