Team USA Minnesota Sends Six to USA Cross

Defending champion Emily Brown and six-time IAAF World Cross Country Championships participant Katie McGregor lead a six-runner Team USA Minnesota contingent to Saturday's USA Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Washington.

The event serves as the selection race for the United States team competing at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland in late March.

Joining Brown, who finished 3rd at 2008 USA Cross, and McGregor, who was the runner-up at the 2003 meet, will be Meghan Armstrong, who placed 12th in the meet last year. The women will compete on a five-lap 8K course.

Competing in the men's 12K event for the Minnesota-based training group are Matt Gabrielson, three-time World Cross qualifier, Antonio Vega, the surprise winner 2010 USA Half Marathon title last month in Houston, and Patrick Smyth, the 2010 USA Half Marathon runner-up.

Last year, in his USA Cross debut, Vega finished 15th in the race. Saturday's race will be Smyth's debut in the event.
