Big Ten Honors High-Flying Rue Again

Another weekend over 14 feet, another weekly Big Ten Award -- that's the routine Gopher pole vaulter Alicia Rue has established for herself.

Over the weekend, Rue (pictured) cleared 14-3 1/4 at the Iowa State Classic, notching her fourth NCAA Indoor Championship automatic qualifying mark in the runner-up effort. Yesterday, for the third time this season -- and the 12th time in her career! -- Rue was named the Big Ten Conference's Field Event Athlete of the Week.

Rue currently holds the #2 national ranking in the pole vault this season at 14-4 1/2. She trails only Indiana State's Kylie Hutson who has cleared 14-5 1/4.

Gopher Men Maintain #17 Rank ... The University of Minnesota men's track and field team maintained its #17 position in the latest NCAA Division I rankings, released yesterday.

The Gopher women rose five places in their rankings, coming in at a season-best #29.
