Grant Wintheiser and the Wayzata High School girls' cross country team are USATF Minnesota's Athletes of the Month for December 2012.
Wintheiser, a sophomore at St. Olaf College, is honored for his third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships held in Terre Haute, Indiana in late November. The Sartell native ran the 8K course in 24 minutes, 36 seconds, leading the Oles to a 14th-place finish in team competition.
The Wayzata girls' cross country team is recognized for its 7th-place finish at Nike Cross Nationals, a national championship competition for high school teams held in early December. The 2012 MSHSL Class AA state champions tallied 232 points at the meet in Portland, Oregon.
