Yes/No: Will Maxwell Improve at USA Masters?

The USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Bloomington, Indiana this weekend. Minnesota will be well represented by the likes of masters superstars Ralph Maxwell and Tom Langenfeld, among others. Maxwell is an indoor world record holder for his age group in the pentathlon as well as the 60-meter hurdles. Langenfeld has over 30 career masters US titles in the High Jump.

Maxwell will be very busy at the meet. He competes in the five-event pentathlon as well as five other individual events. But, of course, he's only 92-years-old, it's not like he's 100.

We will focus on Ralph Maxwell with the question this week...

Yes/No: Will Ralph Maxwell improve on any of his four individual-event marks from the 2011 USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships at the 2012 edition of the meet?

For the purposes of this contest, we will not include Maxwell's entry in the Pentathlon because it is run Friday morning. We will look at the Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Shot Put. In 2011, Maxwell jumped 7-11 1/4 inches in the long jump, 17-9 1/2 in the triple jump and 3-5 1/4 in the high jump. In the shot put, Maxwell threw 23-2.

My answer: Yes

Last week's contest was Pick Ten at the NCAA Indoor Meets. Mike Henderson finished on top this week with 18 points, followed closely by Bill Atkins with 17 and Mike Mason with 16. In the overall Pick Ten standings, Henderson leads with 53 points with former DtB contributor Chris Marshall in hot pursuit with 52.

Over on the Yes/No scoreboard, former Burnsville Brave Jim Glazer is still perfect in 2012 and has seven points. There are six players with six points.

If I read these results correctly--he improved in only the triple jump this year over last year--so the answer is YES. Seems old Ralph saved his best for last!

(2011)
(7-11 1/4) 7-10.25 = long jump
(17-9 1/2) 18-03.25= triple jump
(3-5 1/4) 3-02.50= high jump
(23-2) 23-01.25= shot put
