University of Minnesota junior Aaron Studt was named the Big Ten's Field Event Athlete of the Week on Monday, honoring his weight throw performance at Friday's Snowshoe Open.
Studt (pictured) tossed a career-best 66-11 1/4 inches in the event to finish second to post-collegian Bryan Tolcser by a mere quarter of an inch. The award is Studt’s third career Big Ten weekly honor.
The effort is an NCAA provisional qualifier and the third-best throw is school history. The Ripon, Wisconsin native's toss ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten this season and is in the top 15 in NCAA Division I.
The Minnesota men's team heads to Penn State this weekend to compete in the Big Ten Conference Indoor Championships.
