Gopher Men Reveal First Six Signees

Earlier this week, the Gopher men's program revealed the names of a portion of its 2009 recruiting class. While the program still awaits additional letters of intent from some "very solid" prospects -- the school can't announce names until they have the paperwork in hand -- here's who's signed, sealed, and delivered to this point.

Derek Storkel, Tomah, Wisconsin -- Storkel was the Wisconsin state champ in cross country last fall. Storkel ran within one second of current Gopher Chris Rombough’s time on the Wisconsin State Championships course. Storkel PR's on the track are 4:19 for 1600-meters and 9:24 for 3200-meters.

Ryan Todhunter, Grand Forks, ND (Red River) -- Todhunter is the reigning North Dakota State Champ in the high hurdles. Todhunter ran his PR of 14.16 in the 110m hurdles at the state championship meet last season. Todhunter is also one of the top returners in the 300-meter hurdles.

Clay Gosse, Appleton, Wisconsin (North) -- Gosse is the top returning shot put and discus thrower in the state of Wisconsin, and one of the top returning throwers in the Midwest. Gosse has personal best’s in the shot and discus of 59-2 and 167-0 from his junior season.

Olidipo Fagbemi, Marshfield, Wisconsin -- Fagbemi has a PR of 48.51 in the 400 meters, one of the fastest times in the Upper Midwest. Fagbemi has also run 22.14 in the 200 meters and boasts a personal best of 47-3 in the triple jump.

Matthew “Jake” Malm, Grand Forks, ND (Red River)-- Malm is the top returning javelin thrower from North Dakota and was an all-state performer as a junior in that event. Malm has a personal best of 181-11.

Jon Lehman, Coon Rapids, Minnesota -- Lehman is one of the top returning discus throwers from the state of Minnesota with a PR of 158' to go with his 6-5 frame. Lehman was also top-notch football prospect and received all-state honors this fall. He was recently named to the All-Star football game this spring at St. Cloud State.

Anyone know what the Wisconsin connection is with the gophers staff? Madison gets all our best and we get theirs?
