MSU - Mankato Cross Country Runner Killed

The Mankato Free Press is reporting that a member of the Minnesota State - Mankato women's cross country team was killed Tuesday afternoon when she and a teammate were struck by a vehicle.

You can read the paper's breaking news story HERE.

The story does not name either victim, but reports that both are freshmen at the school.

Wednesday Morning Update: The Mankato Free Press now identifies the victim killed in the accident as Catherine Delwiche of Glencoe. Laura Palmer of Pittsville, Wisconsin received minor injuries in the accident.

The updated story explains that the vehicle that hit the two athletes "crossed the northbound lane of traffic and went onto the sidewalk where it struck Delwiche, who was running, and Palmer, who was on a bicycle."

Delwiche finished 4th in the MSHSL Class A 3200 meters last June in 11:21.0. She was 20th in the Class A state cross country meet the previous November. As a high school sophomore in 2004, she was a member of Glencoe-Silver Lake's Class A state champion cross country team.
