Northern Minnesota had both ends of the distance running spectrum this weekend. Sunday was the Minnesota Mile, and on Saturday there was an ultra festival of sorts with as a 50-mile and trail marathon, and the Superior 100-Mile Ultra Trail Race. In the 100-Mile the male and female winners finished one, two overall as 51-year-old John Horns was first in 23 hours, 21 minutes, and 36 seconds. April Cole, 28, was second overall, first woman, in 26:03:14.
In the Moose Mountain Trail Marathon, Ben Kampf, who is married to Minnesota mile runner-up Heather Kampf, won in 3:38:14. Duluth News Tribune coverage of the races is HERE.
