The 2013 NSIC Women's Cross Country season will get underway on Friday, September 6. NSIC men and women's Cross country teams will compete in various meets throughout the fall with the season culminating in Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday, October 26th at the NSIC Cross Country Championships. The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 9th in again at Yankton Trails in Sioux Falls, SD The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held at Plants Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane, Washington on November 23, 2013.
Women
Augustana
Augustana will be led by three-time All-Americans Kristin Brondbo and Runa Falch after the Augustana women charged to a runner-up finish at last year's national meet. The Vikings open the season with the third annual Augustana Twilight meet at Yankton Trail Park on Sept. 6 beginning at 8 p.m.
The NSIC Championships and the NCAA Central Region Championships will be hosted by Augustana at Yankton Trail Park this fall.
Bemidji State
The Bemidji State cross country team begins its 2013 season Sept. 6 when it hosts the Greenwood Run beginning at 4 p.m. BSU was tabbed 11th in the NSIC Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll. Sophomore Emily Turner (Bringham Lake, Minn.) was named BSU's Athlete to Watch.
Concordia-St. Paul
The Concordia-St. Paul cross country teams are idle this weekend but open the season on September 14 at the Concordia (Wis.) Invitational in Mequon, Wis. with a women's 6k and men's 8k race at 11 a.m. and noon, respectively. The team is led by top returning runners Josh Smith and Anna Schield.
University of Mary
The University of Mary cross country team have one more week to wait until opening the 2013 season. Under the direction of Head Coach Dennis Newell, the Marauders open competition at the Randy Smith Invitational on September 13. Coming off four straight NCAA appearances, including a 13th place finish at nationals last year, the U-Mary women are selected to finish second in the Northern Sun, according to a poll of the league coaches. After losing their top three runners from last season, the Marauders are not listed in the national poll and rank eighth in the region. However, U-Mary does get four-time All-American Jennifer Agnew back. The senior from Onamia, MN, missed last year due to injury but placed 28th in the nation in 2011. Fellow senior Kayla Carlson, who has ran in three straight national championships, also returns.
Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth ranks 14th in the nation and third in the region in the USTFCCA Preseason Polls. Seniors Sarah Chasson and Kate Hassing, along with junior Allie Rudin will serve as 2013 team tri-captains for UMD, which has qualfied for three of the last five NCAA II Championships. The Bulldogs will commence their 2013 season on Sept. 7 at the St. John's University Invitational in Collegeville, Minn.
Minnesota State
The Minnesota State women's cross country was picked to finish fifth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Sophomore Emily Knapczyk was named to the 2013 NSIC Cross Country Athletes to Watch list. The Mavericks begin their 2013 season at the Oz Memorial Sept. 6 in Minneapolis, Minn.
MSU Moorhead
The MSU Moorhead women's cross country team opens the 2013 regular season at the Augustana Twilight Meet on Friday evening in Sioux Falls, S.D. The event will be held under the lights at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls. Sophomore Molly Montonye, who was All-NSIC second team a year ago, leads a solid group of returners. Junior Savannah Link and sophomore Emily Mammemga also are back after contributing a year ago. Freshmen Makenzie Smith also has potential to make an immediate impact. Several individuals, including seniors Kelly Brammer and Megan Ackerman, also are strong contenders to be in the top seven.
Minot State
The Minot State University women's cross country team has an exciting combination of youth and experience on their 2013 roster and head coach Stu Melby thinks there is room for improvement from last year's No. 9 finish in the NSIC. The Beavers will look from leadership from Junior Kara Kuntz (Voltaire, N.D.) and Senior Maila Lucht (National City, Calif.) to carry the team this season. Kuntz has the best returning 5k time on the team, as she finished the UND Ron Pynn Invite with a time of 19 minutes, 49 seconds. New faces for MISU include junior college transfer Erica Clark (Jr., Gardena, Calif.) and local freshman Patience Albertson (Norwich, N.D.) and Samantha Huether (Minot, N.D.). The Beavers open their season on Sept. 13 at the Minnesota State-Moorhead Randy Smith Invite.
Northern State
Northern State was selected ninth in the preseason coaches poll. Thier 2013 season begins Sept. 13 at the MSU Moorhead Randy Smith Invite in Glyndon, Minn.
Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls returns three athletes from the team that finished 6th at the 2012 NSIC Cross Country Championships. They will be led by senior Sierra Harder and junior Becca Steadman. Harder was the top Cougar finisher at the NSIC Championships, earning NSIC Second Team All-Conference honors for her 14th place finish. The Cougars will open the season at the Augustana Twilight Invitational held at Yankton Trails Park on September 6.
Southwest Minnesota State
The Southwest Minnesota State University cross country team was picked to finish 13th, in the annual Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' poll. SMSU enters its second season of cross country since reinstating the program in the summer of 2012. SMSU sophomore Tatum Larson, a native of Canton, S.D., was named an "NSIC Athlete to Watch". The SMSU cross country teams open the 2013 season at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept 6.
St. Cloud State
The St. Cloud State women's cross country team has been tabbed for eighth place in the 2013 NSIC preseason coaches' poll. Huskies listed as athlete to watch this season included senior Kassie Vaness (Oxford, Wis.), who gained All-Region honors in 2012 with top 25 finishes at the NCAA Division II Central Region meet. The Huskies will kick-off their 2013 season on Sept. 7 with an appearance at the St. John's Invitational in Collegeville. On Oct. 4, SCSU will host the St. Cloud State Invitational at the Wapicada Golf Course.
Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa was selected to finish 15th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with junior Courtney Fullmer (Buford, Ga.) named as a NSIC Athlete to Watch. The Peacocks will begin their season on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria, Ill.
Wayne State
The Wayne State College women's cross country team was picked 14th in the 2013 Northern Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Senior Skyler Lippman was selected as the Wildcat women's runner to watch in the NSIC this season. Wayne State is scheduled to open the 2013 season on Friday evening, September 6 at the Augustana Twilight Invitational in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Winona State
The Winona State cross country team will open its season ranked second in the USTFCCCA Preseason Regional Rankings. The team's ranking is the highest preseason mark in program history. The Warriors finished second last season at the NCAA Regional Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship as a team for the first time. WSU finished ninth at the national meet, and returns four runners from its record-setting postseason performance. Four of the seven runners who competed at nationals last year return, led by All-American selection Jessica Young. Winona State will open its season on Sept. 7 at the SMU Alumni Open in Winona.

Augustana open the season in the top five of the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association polls. They checked in at No. 3 in the nation . The Vikings open the season with the third annual Augustana Twilight meet at Yankton Trail Park on Sept. 6 beginning at 8 p.m.
The NSIC Championships and the NCAA Central Region Championships will be hosted by Augustana at Yankton Trail Park this fall.

Minnesota State's men's cross country team checks in at No. 22 in the 2013 USTFCCCA Preaseason DII Poll.Under the direction of first-year head coach Loren Ahonen, Minnesota State returns eight letterwinners from last year's team. Top returning veterans include senior Devin Allbaugh (79th at NCAA meet in 2012), junior Josiah Swanson (105th at NCAA meet in 2012), senior Jacob Ball(123rd at NCAA meet in 2012) and junior Matthew Stocker (185th at NCAA meet in 2012). Minnesota State is slated to open the 2013 campaign Sept. 6 at the Oz Memorial meet in Minneapolis.
MSU Moorhead
The MSU Moorhead men's cross country team opens the 2013 regular season at the Augustana Twilight Meet on Friday evening in Sioux Falls, S.D. The event will be held under the lights at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls. A total of 19 college teams are expected to compete at the event. MSUM's men's squad lost standout Clayton Foster but returns several individuals with experience. That includes sophomore Cody Christ, who had a solid distance season in track, junior Jason Dowell and sophomore Jamison Gehrig, who battled through an injury a year ago. Sophomore Tyler Hennen is another contender for the lineup, while freshmen Jacob Jankowski and Brady Speicher also are in the mix.
Minot State
The Minot State University men's cross country team will head in to the 2013 season with a chance to improve on their No. 10 finish in 2012. The Beavers will have just five runners, but head coach Stu Melby is expecting results from his team. Senior Max Boeckel (Minot, N.D.) will lead MISU, as he has four years of varsity experience. Last year, Boeckel had a season-best 8k time of 27 minutes, 39 seconds at the UND Ron Pynn Invite. Joel Cartwright (So., Great Falls, Mont.) and Brett Szafarski (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif.) will also look to contribute for the Beavers in big ways in 2013. Minot State opens their season on Sept. 13 at the Minnesota State-Moorhead Randy Smith Invite.
Northern State

Sioux Falls
The University of Sioux Falls men's cross country team was picked to finish in third place by a vote of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference cross country coaches in their annual preseason poll. The USF men's squad returns all seven members from the team that finished third overall at the 2012 NSIC Cross Country Championships, including NSIC All-Conference performers Billy Brockmueller, Matthew Horan, and Bobby Brockmueller. Brockmueller was picked as USF's male cross-country athlete to watch. During the 2012 season Brockmueller qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships as an individual after his 9th place finish at the Central Regional Meet. Brockmueller, a native of Brandon, S.D., also earned the NCAA's Elite 89 Award which is given to the athlete with the highest GPA that is competing in the NCAA National Championships. The Cougars will open the season at the Augustana Twilight Invitational held at Yankton Trails Park on September 6.
Southwest Minnesota State
The Southwest Minnesota State University cross country team was picked to finish 13th, in the annual Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' poll. The Huskies will kick-off their 2013 season on Sept. 7 with an appearance at the St. John's Invitational in Collegeville. The WSU men's team was picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll, earning a total of 53 points. Winona State had just one senior on its roster in 2012, returning plenty of experience from a team that placed eighth at the NSIC Championship. Junior Billy Eifert was the top postseason finisher for the Warriors last year, and was named the team's athlete to watch. The Warriors will open their 2013 season on Sept. 7 when they compete in the SMU Alumni Open in Winona.
