Maggie Ewen's Triple Threat.

“That’s the greatest throwing achievement, in my opinion, ever in a one-meet situation in three events. It’s unheard of. You wouldn’t believe it unless you saw it.” Arizona State coach Brian Blutreich says of Maggie Ewen's performance last weekend.  Feature HERE

Gophers/Canada's Agnes Esser 12th in World University Games discus, 15th in the Hammer Throw

World University Games Results HERE

Agnes Esser wrapped up competition at the 2017 FISU Summer World University Games with top-15 finishes in both the discus and the hammer throw while representing her native Canada in Taipei, Taiwan, this week.
After advancing through the discus qualification round, Esser placed 12th in the discus final with a throw of 49.93m (163-09). She improved on each of her three attempts, throwing 47.22m (154-11) on her first throw and 48.24m (158-03) on her second throw before ending with a mark of 49.93m.
Esser also competed in the qualification round of the hammer throw. She placed 10th in Group B and ended up 15th overall with a throw of 57.61m (189-00). Esser threw 57.42m (188-04) and 57.26m (187-10) on her first two throws, respectively. Qualifying performances of 59.00m automatically advance to the final on Saturday.
Along with adjusting to a 13-hour time difference from Minnesota to Taiwan, Esser competed in the discus final less than seven hours after the hammer qualification round. One of 51 athletes representing Athletics Canada at the World University Games, Esser was the only female athlete competing in two events for Canada.

NSAF Performance Clinics

The NSAF( National Scholastic Athletics Foundation) has just signed a 5 year partnership with Sanford Health, making them the “Official Research Partner of the NSAF.” As part of our partnership, we will be hosting a triple jump/javelin clinic in Sioux Falls.  We work with the best athletes in the nation in these two events with our Project Javelin and Project Triple Jump programs and these top athletes will also be attending the clinic.  We also bring in the top coaches in the nation to put on the clinics.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for high school track and field athletes to help them reach their potential.  We actually supported Denzel Brown from Eden Prairie, to come to NBNO last weekend.  While he did not make the finals in either the 100 or the 200 he did represent the Heartland very well.

We are hoping to make the SD clinic the best clinic we put on in the nation and we are hoping you will reach out to any athletes, junior high, high school, or college that might be interested. Coaches are also welcome to register.  We would love to have a great showing of athletes and coaches from SD, ND, MN, IA.  Above is a flyer for the clinic and a website for registration and clinic info. Please feel free to pass this flyer/info on.

Here is a link if you are interested in learning more about the NSAF and what we do.  https://vimeo.com/193473705

Samuel Moore is on a Roll

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Samuel Moore came into the MSHSL State Meet with an impressive streak.  For the last six meets he'd set personal bests.  On Friday, he extended that streak winning the Class A shot put title with a throw of 59' 11.75", a distance that would have placed him fourth in the Class AA competition.

Coached by his father, Moore doesn't know why he was on fire.  One of the officials had watched him as a 6 foot tall two sport athlete as an eighth grader and recognized Moore's potential  Now Moore is 6'5"and has caught the attention of coaches at Iowa for football and for track by NDSU.  A junior he has one more year to reach another goal he missed today, throwing the shot beyond 60 feet.

He felt slightly "frustrated," he said, not breaking that barrier.  He hopes to have a shot at it during the Summer and get some invites to the big Summer meets. Whatever the outcome, his academic plan is to major in engineering wherever he goes to continue his education.  Hopefully, he'll continue to improve in football and track in the seasons ahead as he closes his high school career at  a level that will also get him an athletic scholarship.

On Saturday, Moore hopes to add to his resume in the discus, as he has the second farthest throw among Class A athletes this season in that event.
