St. Olaf Wins Central Region Men's Team Title, Wintheiser Takes Individual Title, MIAC Sweep of Top 3 Women's Team Spots; Plus Midwest Region Results

They're off an running in Iowa.

Predictable thus far, two miles into the race Eli Horton of Central College is out in front.  St. Olaf's top five are packed up front, four Central College guys in the mix, but their fifth man is back in 26th.  The Ole's have five in the top ten, Central has four.  Horton has a six second lead over Grant Wintheiser with Jake Campbell about six seconds behind Wintheiser.

At three miles, Wintheiser has taken over and St. Olaf is pulling away in the team race.  Five MIAC teams in the top ten with Hamline in 11th in the team competition.  Wintheiser is leading by a little over two seconds, Horton in second, Hart Horner of Carleton is in third.  St. Thomas is fourth, Carleton fifth in the team race followed by St. John's in seventh, Gustavus in tenth, Hamline 11th, Macalester 13th.Augsburg 14th, St. Mary's 15th, St. Scholastica 16th, Martin Luther 18th, Bethel 21st.

A tenth past four miles and Wintheiser and St. Olaf continue to pull away. Loras has moved to second in the team race, Central is third, Carleton fourth and St. Thomas fifth.St. John's eighth, Hamline ninth, and Gustavus tenth.  Wintheiser has opened his lead to 21 seconds over Horton, Jake Campbell is third, Horner fourth, Jake Brown and Paul Escher fifth and sixth, respectively.  The Ole's fifth man, Phillip Meyer, is eighth.  Loras has packed it's top three men in seventh, ninth, and tenth.  Hamline's Ryan Peterson is 12th, St. John's Thomas Feichtinger 13th, St. Thomas' Jacob Gerhartz 16th with teammate Dylan Baumann 18th.  Carleton duo of Jonah Barry and Donson Cook-Gallardo 19th and 20th respectively. The Central women's race is over, but they appear to have cut off the live feed, only woman's split thus far was at 600 meters.

Meanwhile, back in Minnesota, they ran the Minnesota USATF XC Championships this morning on a "real" cross country course :-) Skis anyone...
