Tommie Men Seek Title #26 at MIAC Indoor

With the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships getting underway yesterday with pentathlon competition -- and continuing today and Saturday with the meet-proper -- the University of St. Thomas men's team seeks to extend an MIAC Indoor winning-streak that is as old as the championships itself.

The Tommies, remarkably, have won every one of the 25 MIAC Indoor meets contested since 1985.

This year, however, the Tommies are expecting much more of a challenge than usual for the MIAC crown. Both Bethel University (ranked #10 in NCAA Division III) and Hamline (#23) field teams with reasonable chances to wrest the conference title from its single owner.

The Tommies enter the meet ranked #30, nationally.

On the women's side, the #15-ranked St. Thomas women, winners of 22 MIAC Indoor crowns, including the last ten, also faces able competition in #16 Bethel and 2009 runners-up Gustavus.

Results of Thursday's pentathlon competition -- won by the Tommies' Matt Griswold and Gustavus' Kaelene Lundstrom -- are HERE (men) and HERE (women).
