Vega, Brown Win Big at Twin Cities 5K

Team USA Minnesota's Antonio Vega and Emily Brown swept the top spots in the Twin Cities Marathon TC 5K this morning, kicking off a sticky weekend of distance running in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The two recent University of Minnesota alums won big: Vega ran 14:58 to out-pace runner-up Sean Olson by 40 seconds; Brown clocked a PR 16:19 to out-distance former Wisconsin Badger star Bethany Brewster by 59 seconds.

"It was good to get a race in finally," Vega said in a Team USA Minnesota press release. "I hoped someone would go out with me in the first mile, but no one did. At a mile-and-a-half I had 15 seconds on the field."

Vega made his professional debut with the race.

"Everything was pretty even with my splits in the first two miles," Brown, who posted a first mile of 5:25 and passed mile two in 10:48, according to Team USA Minnesota's Pat Goodwin, said. "I was running with a group of guys from the Macalester College cross country team which was nice because I wasn't out there alone."
