Andy Beardsley RIP

By Jim Ferstle
I have a Facebook account, but I hardly ever look at it.  Today, for some unknown reason, I logged on and saw a message from Dick Beardsley that his son Andy had passed away.  This followed by the messages of support and condolences for Dick, Mary, and Jill for their loss.

Below the photo of Andy holding a large Bass were the messages and on top of that list was Bill Rodgers.  It brought back memories of one of Dick's rough times in the past.  I'd answered a phone call and the person calling was Bill.  He didn't have any contact info for Dick and he wanted to get in touch with him to offer the help of the Boston running community in Dick's time of need.

Others may remember Bill for his triumphs on the roads, but I'll always remember him for this, reaching out to help another runner. That's what I like to believe the running community does.  We're there for each other in good times and bad.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
