The University of Minnesota men's track and field team rose to #20 in the NCAA Division I rankings compiled by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The ranking represents a five-position rise in the national pecking order since last week.
The two-time defending Big Ten outdoor champions, however, find themselves looking up in the rankings at four conference schools as they head to Champaign, Illinois of the Big Ten meet this weekend. Indiana is ranked #4, Penn State is #10, Iowa is #15, and Wisconsin is #15.
Ohio State is ranked close behind the Gophers at #22.

The USTFCCCA rankings are based on the rankings of each teams athletes on the national level. Last year, the Gopher men, at #17 in the NCAA, ranked as the third-best conference team going into the Big Ten Indoor Championships, but won the meet in grand fashion.
The University of Minnesota women will head to West Lafayette, Indiana for the Big Ten women's meet as the #39-ranked team in D1. Michigan leads the Big Ten in the rankings at #13. Indiana is ranked #29, while Ohio State ranks #38.
