Kara Goucher and Will Leer headlined the results of Minnesota athletes at yesterday's Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, the site, in three weeks, of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.
Goucher ran an even-paced 14:58.10 to finish 3rd in the 5000 meters which was won by Ethiopia's Mesaret Defar in 14:38.73. Leer finished 9th in the Bowerman Mile in 3:58.16. He tracked American Record-holder Alan Webb at the back of the pack for the bulk of the race. Shedrack Korir won the event in 3:50.49; Webb finished 7th in 3:55.47.
Also competing at Pre were: Cack Ferrell, who was a DNF in the 5000m after 2K ... Trent Riter, who finished 5th in Section II of the 800m in 1:49.26 ... Adam Steele, who finished 9th in Section II of the 800m in 1:51.16 ... and Jake Watson, who finished 4th in Section I of the men's 1500m in 3:42.37.
