Maxwell, Stelten Honored by USATF-Minn.

The Minnesota Association of USA Track & Field recently announced that Ralph Maxwell and Lauren Stelten were named USATF Minnesota's Athletes of the Month for April.

Maxwell, a 91-year-old who splits his time between Longville, Minnesota and Alamo, Texas, was recognized for winning five events in the M90 division at the USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico last month.

Maxwell won the high jump at 3-5 1/4 inches, the long jump with 7-11 1/4, the triple jump with 17-9 1/2, the shot put with 23-2, and the five-event pentathlon competition with 3952 points. His time in the pentathlon 60m hurdles of 15.39 seconds broke his own world record in the event.

Stelten, a senior at Minnesota State University, Mankato, was honored for her victory in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships also contested in Albuquerque last month. The Chaska High School graduate cleared 13-6 1/2 inches to win her first NCAA title.

USA Track & Field Minnesota selects Athletes of the Month to honor excellence in track and field and its related sports in Minnesota. USA Track & Field is the governing body of the sport in the United States and the Minnesota Association of USATF sanctions and sponsors track and field, cross country, road racing, and racewalking events for athletes of all ages in the state.
