Chris Reed Wins Shot at DII, Mallory Burnham leads St. Thomas Women to Fifth in Team Race at DIII

MSU Mankato's Chris Reed topped a treble of point scoring performances in the field events with a NCAA DII national championship in the men's shot put with a heave of 65' 4.75". Reed's exploits plus those from 110 hurdles second place finisher Myles Hunter(13.96) and 200 meter eighth place finisher Jerrell Hancock(21.36) took MSU Mankato to eighth place in the team scoring with 28 points.

In the women's DII team race UMD, with Samatha Rivard's runner-up performance in the 5K(16:35.44), tied for 25th place with 8 points.  MSU-Moorhead tied for 33rd with 7 points, and U-Mary was tied for 39th with 6 points.  U-Mary's 4 by 100 relay finished fourth in 45.86.  MSU Moorhead's Molly Montonye finished fourth in the 1500 in 4:26.87 with her teammate Tia Knight taking seventh in the 100 hurdles in 13.84. U-Mary's 4 by 400 relay finished ninth in 3:45.20.

In the DIII women's competition St. Thomas sprinter Mallory Burnham kept her usual busy schedule taking second place in the 100 meters, won the 100 hurdles, and anchored the team's 4 by 100 relay to a runner-up finish in 46.67.  In the 100 Burnham was timed in 11.924 to winner UW-Eau Claire's Carly Fehler's 11.921.  In the 100 hurdles Burnham ran 14.02.  She aided or fully contributed 26 of the Tommies 27 points, which put the team in fifth place.  (St. Thomas press release is HERE.)

Carleton finished in a tie for eighth with 21 points, most of them coming from Friday's Heptathlon winner Amelia Campbell and Saturday's Discus champ Kao Sutton, who threw the disc 47.31m/155'2".   Concordia-Moorhead tied for 18th with 12.  Macalester and St. Scholastica tied for 51st with 6, and Augsburg tied for 56th with 4 points. Macalester's Kimber Meyer finished fourth in the 5K in 16:37.16.  St. Thomas' Kayla Goeman finished eighth in the 800 in 2:17.66 and Carleton's Colette Celichowski was eighth in the 1500 in 4:37.75.

Concordia-Moorhead's Hilary Thompson finished third in the triple jump at 12.21m/40'.75", and her teammate Cherae Reeves took third in the shot put with a heave of 14.89m/48'10.25".  Concordia Moorhead's Olivia Johnson finished ninth in the shot put(13.69m/44'11") and 22nd in the discus(37.05m/121'7"). Teammate Hillary Birchem was 11th in the discus(44.39m/145'8")

In the men's competition St. Olaf, led by three runners scoring and another in the top 11 of the 1500, placed 23rd with 13 points.  St. Thomas was tied for 33rd with 8 points, and Bethel tied for 44th with 6 points. St. Olaf's Paul Escher finished second(3:48.01) in the 1500, followed by Bethel's Zach Haskins in third(3:48.01), St. Olaf's Grant Wintheiser was fourth in 3:48.90, and his teammate Jake Campbell finished 11th in 3:52.16.

St. Thomas' Connor O'Neill  was fourth in the pole vault clearing 5m/16'4.75".  Carleton's Marcus Huderle placed 14th in the steeple in 9:39.57. St. Olaf's Dan Slaughter finished 14th in the javelin(56.97m/186'11").  Macalester's Konnor Fleming was 20th(44.78m/146'11"). St. Thomas' Bryan Thell placed 13th in the hammer throw(55.62m/182'6"), St. Scholastica's Jeremy Peterson was 19th(51.43m/168'9").
