At the World Masters Championships, Susan Loyd qualified third in
her W55 400m heat (75.44) – and finished sixth in the finals (75.54). The US W55 4X400 team finished fifth today,
but it's not clear if Susan was one of the runners as team members were not listed.
She faced some formidable
competition in the 400. The winner,
Marie Mathieu, 56, of Puerto Rico, had a
faster time (61.20) in the women's preliminaries than any of the men in their
55-59 heats. Her 60.56 in the women’s
finals would have placed fifth in the men’s final. She also won the W55 100m and 200m.--from Tom Langenfeld
