So much news was made locally in the sport in the last 24 hours that, like a TC-10 Miler who stopped to tie his shoe, we're forced to catch up to the pace ...
Goucher in the News Tribune ... Kevin Pates of the Duluth News Tribune wrote THIS (link fixed) story yesterday about what will be only Kara Goucher's third race in Minnesota in the last dozen years, when the Duluth native lines up for the USA Women's 10 Mile Championship at the Medtronic TC 10 Mile on Sunday.
Lehmkuhle to NYC Marathon ... The New York Road Runners announced that Team USA Minnesota's Jason Lehmkuhle will race in this year's ING New York City Marathon on November 2. Lehmkuhle joins teammate Katie McGregor in the race. Lehmkuhle finished 5th in the Olympic Trials Marathon in New York City last fall.
Headphone-Wearers Beware ... The Pioneer Press has THIS thorough story about TCM's (and Grandma's) ban on headphones and electronic devices in their events, as per USATF rules. The story contrasts the Minnesota races with the Portland Marathon which encourages such items ... and whose event director, shockingly, refers to TCM organizers who enforce the ban as, "a bunch of dorks."
Twin Cities Marathon Announcements ... Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon organizers have the latest information on its masters field -- where USA Masters Marathon champs Tracy Lokken and Susan Loken return -- HERE and info on ancillary events for runners and spectators, HERE.
Grandma's Scraps St. Paul Mile ... In an effort to focus efforts on the Grandma's Minnesota Mile in Duluth, race officials have decided to discontinue the companion Grandma's Minnesota Mile - St. Paul. In THIS media release, Grandma's executive director Scott Keenan said: "It simply makes much more sense logistically for our organization as a whole to focus its efforts on creating a single premier one-mile event as opposed to two good local events."
Eden Prairie Teams Sweep ... There was high school harrier action yesterday as well! The #2-ranked Eden Prairie girls' and boys' teams swept the Victoria Lions Invitational. The Eagle girls, behind medalist Cassy Opitz, beat #3 Minnetonka 37-83. The Eagle boys, behind individual champ Ayub Aden, beat #7 Stillwater 27-65.
Full results of the meet can be found HERE, on RaceberryJam.
