St. John's edges St. Thomas at Meet of Saints


Saint John's won the Meet of Saints, the annual triangular with St. Olaf and St. Thomas, on Sunday, May 5, in Collegeville  with 154 points, followed by St. Thomas (152) and St. Olaf (58). The SJU men won eight events and had 18 second- or third-place finishes.

Four seniors won events. Kevin Horton (Eagan, Minn.) won the 400 meters with a season-best time of 49.04 seconds and Derek Rausch(White Bear Lake, Minn.) won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.05 seconds.Tyler Martin (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) won the triple jump with a leap of 12.64 meters and Andrew Calascione (Parker, Colo./Chaparal) took first in the javelin (46.23 meters).

Juniors Taylor Nauman (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) and John Subialka(Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) recorded season-best marks in the 400-meter hurdles (56.34) and 1,500 meters (4:01.90), respectively.
Sophomore Nick Welshons (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) claimed first in the high jump (1.98 meters) and freshman Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) won the 800 meters (1:54.59).

The St. Thomas men won ten events on Sunday, two by Bryan Thell in the throws.  Thell and Matt Schauer each threw 47'11.75" to lead the shot put. Thell won the hammer at 167'1".  Aba Omot won the discus (151'4"). In the javelin, Blake Bordson (149') and Quinn Impola (139') finished 2-3.  UST won the 4x100 relay in 42.39 with Cole Boughner, Omot, Jeff Rada and Cody Jerabek.

Jerabek won the 200 in 22.35. Boughner won the 100 (11.15) and took second in the 200 (22.35).Jeff Rada took fifth in the 100 (11.52) and the 200 (23.03). Brian Jervey was third in the 400 (49.77). In the 800, Tyler Krpan (1:56.87) and Doug Thoresen (1:57.14) placed 3-5.

Joe Wistrcill was third in the 110 hurdles (16.57). James McMillon was third in the 400 hurdles (59.34).
In the steeplechase, Ncholas Johnson (10:04.70) and Ethan Armbruster (10:15.04) placed 1-2. Nick LeTourneau won the 5,000 (16:20.15).

In the pole vault, Thomas Foote (13'10.25" and Ben Besch (13' 4.25") finished 1-2. In the long jump, Eyp Ekpo (21'1.5"), Charlie Pechous (21'.75") and Nicholas Braunig (19'8") placed 1-2-4. Nathan Parsons took fourth in the triple jump (38'10.25"). Matthew Anderson placed second in the high jump (5'10").
