It was a busy day and night at the opening day of the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto on Friday. The Gophers Zach Siegmeier won the invitational pole vault clearing 5.11m/16' 9.25". Trevor Yedoni was third in the collegiate long jump with a leap of 7m/22' 11.75". Danny Schiller finished tenth in the high jump clearing 1.96m/6'5" while teammate Luca Wieland finished tied for ninth in the second flight jumping 1.91m/6' 3.25". Wally Ellenson passed on his first three jumps but missed three times at his opening height of 2.01m/6'7".
Team USA Minnesota's Jon Peterson finished eighth in 5K(section 1) in 13:46.36. The Gopher's Aaron Bartnik won section 4 of the 5K in 14:13.02. Teammate Christian Skaret won section 7 of the 1500 in 3:52.42 and Alex Brend was second in section 4 in 3:49.24. In that same section Gopher's Blayne Dulian was fourth in 3:50.22 and Marcus Paulson fifth in 3:50.46. Gopher Cole O'Brien was tenth in section 7 in 4:05.54, while Cretin Derham Hall grad Kevin Docherty, who runs for Iowa, finished eleventh in section 5 in 3:53.73.
U of M's Bobby Nicolls finished seventh in section 3 of the steeple in 8:59.13 and teammate Derek Storkel was eleventh in 9:07.65. For the Gopher women Kelli Budd was second in section 3 of the steeple in 10:17.50 and teammate Kaila Urick was eleventh in 10:51.15. Kaitlin Mincke finished tenth in section 5 of the 1500 in 4:33. Maggie Bollig was eight in section 3 in 4:29.69. Katie Moraczewski finished eleventh in heat 1 of the steeple in 10:19.51. Liz Berkholtz was eighth in section 2 of the 10K in 34:12.67 and Rachel Drake was thirty sixth in 35:53.57.
