NSIC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Devin Allbaugh Caty's 8K Run in 25:34 on Saturday at Land of Memories Park, in Mankato, Minn.  Allbaugh finished 12 seconds ahead of teammate Jacob Bell.


Team Notes
University of Mary
Chris Jessop (Soph., Corvallis, Mont.) led a strong University of Mary showing at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Billings, Mont, finishing fourth in 24:51.1. He has paced the Marauders in all three of the squad's meets this season. Overall the Marauders placed third. Host MSU Billings, who received a vote in the national poll and is ranked fifth in the West region, won the event with 52 points. Black Hills State scored 89, just ahead of the 93 for U-Mary and 94 for Dickinson State University.

Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs placed 11th in the Lucian Rosa Invitational 8K in Kenosha with 311 points without the services of the team's top runner, junior Dan Nielsen. Five of the teams that placed higher than the Bulldogs were NCAA Division I schools. The team was led by sophomore Mitch Fisher finished 42nd in 26:27.7. Others were: sophomore Drew Johnson (55th; 26:42.5), freshman Seth Hare (63rd; 26:46.9), sophomore Ted Heikkila (71st; 27:05.3), senior Tyler Stevens (80th; 27:33.1), sophomore Joey Erickson (83rd; 27:35.4), and junior Mitch Zuidema (84th; 27:45.9).

Minnesota State Mankato
The Minnesota State men's cross country team competed in Caty's Run last Saturday morning at Land of Memories Park, in Mankato. There were no team scores kept for the event. Senior Devin Allbaugh, finished in first place, turning a time of 25:34. Next action for the Mavericks is the NSIC Championships scheduled for Oct. 26th in Sioux Falls, SD.

MSU Moorhead
Jason Dowell (Jr., Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North HS) won a meet for the second time this season in helping the Dragons to the team title at the Jimmie Invitational 8K hosted by the University of Jamestown on Oct. 11. Dowell won in 25:48.
Southwest Minnesota State
Southwest Minnesota State University men's cross country team placed fifth out of 12 teams at the Briar Cliff Invite 8K on Saturday morning at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, S.D. Trent Smith paced the SMSU men with an 11th place finish out of 133 runners with a time of 26:00 in the 8,000-meter race. Alejandro Sanchez came in right behind Smith with a time of 26:07 to record 13th place. OJ Ojullu ran a time of 26:52 to finish in 30th, followed by Kelly Fitzsimmons in 41st with a time of 27:18 and Alex Solheim at 27:51 to earn 56th place. Chris Kveseth finished in 95th (29:30), with Austin Handley in 97th (29:38) and Andrew Feucht recording a 101st place finish (29:57). SMSU will have two weeks off before competing at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship on Oct. 26 at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.

University of Mary
Jennifer Agnew dominated the field at the Yellowjacket Invitational 5K on Saturday, setting a course record of 16:51.8 to lead the Marauders to victory. This is the second time this season Agnew has been named NSIC Cross Country Athlete of the Week (9/17/13).

NSIC Cross Country Championship
The NSIX XC Championships will be in  Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday, October 26th.  The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 9 at the same location. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held at Plants Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane, Wash. on November 23, 2013.

Team Notes
Bemidji State
Freshman Nikki Szech (Long Prairie, Minn.) guided the Bemidji State cross country team Friday at the Jimmie Invitational 5K in 21:18(25th). The Beavers finished sixth with a total time of 1:49:00.

University of Mary
Jennifer Agnew (Sr., Onamia, Minn. / Onamia HS), running at altitude for the first time this season, the four-time All-American won the 5K race by 1:18. U-Mary captured the top three places: Erin Leier (Jr. Esmond, N.D.), was second in 18:09.9; senior Kayla Carlson (Big Fork, Mont.), was third in 18:12.9.

Minnesota Duluth
Freshman Samantha Rivard finished first among Bulldogs and fifth overall (out of 294 runners) in 17:53.1 at the 
University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Lucian Rosa Invitational 5K. The other point getters for the Bulldogs were: sophomore Hannah Olson (23rd/18:31.2), junior Alexandra Rudin (32nd/18.40.3), sophomore Erica Seidenkranz (56th/19.05.8), and sophomore Hannah Jocelyn (59th/19.08.08). Freshman Breanna Colbenson,  UMD's top individual finisher in all three previous meets this season, dropped out of Saturday's race with an injury and sophomore Kaelyn Williams did not compete.

Minnesota State Mankato
The Minnesota State women's cross country team competed in Caty's Run Saturday at Land of Memories Park. No team scores were kept during the competition. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Emily Knapczyk, who was second among 21 runners in 15:28. Next action for the Mavericks is the NSIC Championships.

MSU Moorhead
Molly Montonye (So., Graceville, Minn. / Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley HS) won the her first individual title of the season in 18:38 at the Jimmie Invitational 5K in Jamestown, N.D, and helped the Dragons win the team title. at the event. Competing on a wet and muddy course, Montonye finished 19 seconds ahead of second place. It is the second meet win of her collegiate career.
Southwest Minnesota State
SMSU finished sixth out of nine teams at the Briar Cliff Invite 5K on Saturday morning at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, SD. Amanda Grengs led the Mustangs in 19:23 to finish 19th out of 94 runners. Paige Yi was 22nd with a 19:27, while Tatum Larson ran a time of 19:57 in 31st. Julia Sauder ran 21:01 in 51st, while Hannah Dressen rounded out the team scoring with a time of 22:24 in 75th.  SMSU will have two weeks off before competing at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship.
