The defendning MIAC Champion Gustavus women  finished second behind UMD, an NCAA Division II  team, at the Saint John's Invitational last weekend.  Caitlin Fermoyle (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) lead the way finishing second in the 6K in 23:35. Her performance earned Fermoyle the MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week honors.

On Saturday, September 21, at the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield, Gustavus, the host Oles, and Carleton, the league's top three teams from a season ago, will square off for the first time in 2013.

The Carleton men's cross country team won the Central College Dutch Invitational in Iowa. led by sophomore Hart Hornor (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), who finished second in the 8K in 26:30.3. For his performance, the Hornor was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week.
Carleton placed their top seven runners in the first 17 to beat host Central, which is ranked 7th in Division III and first in the region, and Loras, which is ranked 4th in the region. Horner's time and finish were a marked improvement from his freshman season, when he was not included on the Knight's roster for the regional meet.
Carleton and Hornor will return to Iowa this weekend with hopes of continuing their recent success. The Knights will run at the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell Iowa at Oakland Acres Golf Course Saturday at 10 a.m. The following Saturday (Sept. 21), the Knights will compete at the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield.
