The Team USA Minnesota "How I spent my Summer vacation" Tour is underway. Yesterday, Heather Kampf began her tour with in Cork, Ireland at the Cork City Sports meet. Kampf ran 2:01.57 to win the 800. Meet results are HERE. Irish Examiner story on the meet is HERE.
On Saturday, July 6, Kampf will run the 1500 at the Memorial Leon Buyle meet in Lede, Belgium. Kampf will also run another 800 in Lignano, Italy on July 16, and has possible races on July 10, 13, and/or 14. Gabriele Anderson was the first to arrive in Europe as she ran the IAAF Diamond League meet in Birmingham last Sunday. After racing 1500 in Lausanne on July 4, Anderson will take on pacer duties for the 5K at the Paris Diamond League meet on July 6.
Jamie Cheever, who is the "alternate" for the US team in the steeplechase has to wait until July 20 unless one of the three women who finished ahead of her drops out or doesn't get the A standard qualifier to learn if she will be moved onto the team for the World Championships. Cheever has an invitation to compete in the Diamond League meet in Monaco on July 19.
Reading through the Cork results you'll notice some other familiar names: Garrett Heath(3rd in mile 3:55.91), Ben Blankenship(6th in mile 3:56.66), Hassan Mead(2nd in 3000 7:52.00).
