Preview for Minnesotans at US Masters Championships

by Tom Langenfeld
Sherwood Sagedahl is one of 15 Minnesotans entered in the championships (that I know of) – and he’s actually entered in more events than listed in the USATF release.  Looks like he’ll also be trying to defend his pentathlon championship, an event in which he set an M70 world record last year.  The full “Status of Entries” list also shows him in the javelin, another event he won last year, and the 200m.

Sagedahl also won the M70 1500m last year, and he will be defending that title against a field that includes two other strong Minnesota contenders—Thom Weddle (third last year) and Rick Kleyman.  Other Minnesota gold medalists looking to repeat are David Lindenberg in the submasters M30 pole vault and Tom Langenfeld in the M75 high jump.

Several other Minnesota entrants have 2013 performances ranked near the top going into the nationals:   Michael Burns, second best  time in the M70 long hurdles; Lance Elliott, third in the M40 1500m; Jim Schoffman, third in the M60 400m; and Susan Loyd, fourth in both the W55 200m and 400m.
