Rocky's Run; Fall Finale

The University of Minnesota cross country team hosted the 32nd annual running of Rocky's Run at Les Bolstad Golf Course on Sunday morning. Danny Docherty, brother of Gopher women's team member Laura Docherty, won the 6K race in 20:07.  The Gopher's Cassy Opitz won the women's race in 22:44.

Rocky's Run was founded in 1981 to honor former Gopher runner Rochelle "Rocky" Racette, who died in a car crash that fall at age 22. Racette was a Big Ten and Drake Relays champion in the 5,000 meters at Minnesota. She was also crowned homecoming queen one fall when an injury prevented her from competing in cross country.

Racette's legacy lives on through the memory of those who knew her, the race, and the scholarship for which it raised money.  Gopher junior Rachel Drake, who won the women's race at Rocky's Run last year, was awarded this year's scholarship.
