Collegiate Recap: Crown College Inv; SJU Inv.; Les Duke Inv.; All American Inv.


St. Thomas won the men's and St. Kate's the women's race at the Crown College Invitational in St. Bonifacius on Saturday.  The Tommies had six runners in the top-seven, led by sophomore Keaton Wendroth, who won in 26:51 for 8K. Macalester's men, led by runner-up Andy Keefe(27:31),  finished second in the team competition, with Bethel finishing sixth.  Men's results are HERE.

Freshman Emily Sweet led St. Kate's with a win in the women's race in 25:19 for the 6K course.  St. Kate's took the first four places and seven of the first eight.  Bethel was fourth in the team competition, led by 15th place finisher, senior Elizabeth Urtel in 27:43. Women's results are HERE.

Saint John's opened its 2012 cross country season with a first-place finish out of five teams at the annual SJU Invitational on Saturday in Collegeville. The Johnnies Matt Scherber, a senior, finished third overall, second among the collegiate competitors in 27:01 for 8K.  St. John's alum Kelly Fermoyle(2008) won the race in 26:40.  St. Cloud State Sophomore Gemechu Bekelcho was first collegian, second overall in 27:00.  St. Cloud State, Gustavus, and Concordia(Moorhead) captured 2, 3, 4th, respectively,  in the team competition.  Full results are HERE. In the women's race Sophomore Caitlin Fermoyle of Gustavus won in  23:24 for 6K, leading the team to a runner up finish behind St. Benedict.  Senior Caitlin Goodman led St. Ben's in 3rd place in 23:50.  Concordia(Moorhead) was third(led by runner-up, Junior  Hannah Knickerbocker in 23:41), Macalester fourth(Senior Anna French, 7th in 24:07), and St. Cloud State fifth(Junior Kassie Vaness in 5th in 23:59). Junior Marcus Huderle placed 7th  in 25:53 to lead  Carleton College men’s cross country team to a 5th place finish at the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday in their season debut. Full results are HERE. The Carleton College women won the team competition at the All-American Invitational hosted by Luther College on Saturday. The Knights placed five runners in the top 20—three of them among the top ten—led by sophomore Colette Celichowski’s fifth-place showing at 19:05  Hamline finished ninth led by Emily Smith in 36th place in 20:08.  Concordia(St. Paul) was 11th led by Sophomore Anna Schield in 54th in 20:55. The Hamline men finished in fourth led by  Senior Brendan Ruter in 16th in 21:26 for the 4-mile race.  Concordia(St. Paul) men were 7th led by  Freshman Josh Smith in 7th in 21:15.   1. I would check your teams here. I doubt that Bethel women's best 6k is a 27:43. Their best is most likely around 22:XX.

  2. The link for the results is in the story. That's the time and distance listed. It may be a tough/muddy course or the measurements are off. The men's 8K winning time was almost 27 minutes, so all the times were "slow" by most standards, but it is cross country where time really doesn't matter as much because there can be many variables that impact how fast one can go.

  3. Still not Bethel. They weren't even at that meet. Maybe Bethany? Bethel had a different meet that day.
