Boys' Class A: Cathedral Survives, Schuldt Shocks

#1-ranked St. Cloud Cathedral edged defending champions Perham 72-73 to win the MSHSL Class A boys' cross country title this afternoon.

The result was the closest boys' team finish in Class A since 1985, when Elgin-Millville topped Long Prairie on a tie-breaker after both teams deadlocked with 78 points.

Minnehaha Academy was third with 132 points.

Individually, Byron Schuldt of Nevis out-ran #1-ranked Brandon Clark of Blake for the individual title. Schuldt, ranked only #7 in the latest Class A poll, came from well back in the pack -- the senior estimated he was in 50-60th place at the mile -- for the upset victory.

Schuldt clocked 15:56; Clark ran 16:00. Charlie Lawrence of Foley was third in 16:10.
