Špotáková Advances ... The University of Minnesota's most decorated track and field athlete, Barbora Špotáková, qualified for the finals of the women's javelin at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea this morning.
The Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder from the Czech Republic who had a brief career as a heptathlete at Minnesota marked a 208-0 on her first and only throw of the qualifying competition. The mark surpassed the automatic finals-qualifying standard of 200-1.
Špotáková, who tops the 2011 world list in the event with at 227-10, was the 4th-best qualifier in the competition. Christina Obergföll of Germany was the day's top thrower at 225-7.

Mead Talks ... University of Minnesota distance running star Hassan Mead was interviewed by Carrie Tollefson on the Olympian's weekly weekly video podcast "C Tolle Run."
Mead talks about his family's move from Somalia to the United States when he was a child as well as about his post-collegiate future as a distance runner. You can watch the video below.

Dilling Returns ... Former Minnesota State, Mankato high jump star Jim Dilling was back in Minnesota recently after competing for six weeks in Europe. Dilling, who finished sixth at the USA Outdoor Championships in Eugene this summer, will be a member of the USA squad at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in late October.
