Former University of Wisconsin All-American Craig Miller and former California-Riverside standout Brenda Martinez won the professional races at the Minnesota Mile in Duluth on Sunday.
Headwinds slowed the pace of the elites in the road mile down Duluth's Superior Street -- Miller won in 4:04, Martinez in 4:44.
Team USA Minnesota's Heather Kampf was the top Minnesota finisher in the professional races. The University of Minnesota alumnus was third in 4:47, a place and a second behind Amy Mortimer of Kansas, the runner-up.
Christian Hesch of California was the men's runner-up in 4:06; Kevin Chelimo of Kenya was third with the same time.
Defending men's champ Aron Rono of Kenya, suffering from a hip injury, was 11th in 4:21.
