Yes/No: Will Jacub Zivec Break 14:00?

It is well known that Minnesota high schools have produced some great college distance runners recently. Top national contenders like Hassan Mead, Ben Blankenship, Elliot Heath, and Justin Tyner are front-and-center in this discussion. One up-and-comer has not received the same notoriety yet, but looks to be following the same path: Jacub Zivec.

Zivec, you'll remember, was a Grand Rapids High School exchange student during the fall of 2009. Although he wasn't allowed to compete in varsity meets sanctioned by the MSHSL, the Czech Republic national finished fifth at the Foot Locker National Championships that fall, following in the footsteps of Mead, who finished fourth in 2007, and Rob Finnerty, who was ninth in 2008.

Zivec now runs for Florida State and will participate in the Stanford Invitational on Friday. We'd like you to let us know how fast he will run ...

Y/N: Will Jakub Zivec break 14:00.00 in the 5000 meters at Stanford on Friday?

Zivec is a red-shirt freshman at Florida State. In cross country in 2010, he ran at the NCAA Championships for the second place Seminoles. Zivec also finished eleventh in the ACC Championships, running 24:07 for 8000 meters.

In indoor track in 2011, Zivec posted times of 4:09 for the mile and 8:21 for 3k. His lifetime track PR's are 3:44 for 1500 meters, 8:10 at 3000-meters and 14:10 for 5000m.

My answer: Yes

Last week's question was: Will Andrew Carlson finish in the top fifty at the World Cross Country race on March 20th? The answer was no. Carlson finished 68th, going toe-to-toe with the best runners in the world. Thirty four contestants answered correctly this week. Chris Rivers continues to be perfect this year and leads the competition with six points.
