Yes/No: MIAC Record for Brueggen in Weight?

Last week featured the indoor conference meets for the Big Ten and the NSIC among Minnesota collegiate teams. This week will mark the conference championship for the NCAA Division III teams in Minnesota with the MIAC Meet. The meet will be held at St. Thomas' new indoor track on Friday and Saturday.

The men's weight throw will arguably be the toughest event in the competition featuring two returning All-Americans and two other throwers that have hit the provisional qualifier for Nationals this year.

Y/N: Will Andrew Brueggen break the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet Record in the weight throw?

Andrew Brueggen was second at the MIAC meet and fourth at the National Meet in 2010 in the weight throw. He threw 61-4 1/4 at the National Meet. In 2011, Brueggen has thrown 63-8 1/4 to automatically qualify for Nationals. That distance is currently the second best throw in D3. The MIAC meet record is held by Pat Ahern of St. Thomas. Ahern threw 62-3 in 1993.

Brueggen will have plenty of competition in this event. Two Hamline juniors have thrown provisional qualifiers and will push Brueggen for the title and the record. Andrew Schlichting has thrown 59-9 1/2 and Brennan McKeag has thrown 59-8 1/4 in 2011. And don't forget about Derall King from Hamline's incredible weight crew. King was an All-American in 2010 in the weight throw and actually beat Brueggen in the MIAC meet. At that meet, King scared the meet record with a distance of 61-6 1/4.
